The Final Blog Post!

It has been a long journey, but we did it! No more blogging! I'm gonna miss my group, as I had a great time with them. We had a few stressful moment, and times when we wanted to throw each other out of the window but we made it to the end. Now, lets hope we get the best marks possible!

I have loved  producing a title sequence and feel that it has helped me create a bond with people that i would most  likly not have spoken to. I am grateful for that.  it have been an amazing experience with people that i will be happy to call family. Anyway  i need to catch up on the sleep this course has deprived me from . so i bid you goodbye.

I am so relieved that it is over.. I want to say that I am extremely proud to be working with my group. Ive made friendships along the way, we had good moments and stressful times but overall it was a jolly good experience.

Transcript
from the process of constructing this product, I learnt how to use the camera. the camera was an important device to my film as it recorded everything. We used a JVC camera which also had a built in sound system for accurate sound. However we did not use it as we decided to have strong beats as music, rather than dialogue.
the manual focus also helped us, we extended our creativity to manipulate the image and make it seem distort.
The camera was in 720P resolution making it HD. This helped us and the audience focus on the detail and also helped clarify the image.

The memory cards were very important in the making of the production as they stored all the data and helped us transfer it safely and easily onto the computer. The memory cards also helped with the production as they were a back up in case anything went missing once we started editing.

In premier pro, we used the cutting tool, the speed duration tool and other tools. Premier pro helped us reconstruct and put together our title sequence. Below is an editing evidence video of the team editing with their reasons why.

After effects also helped us create a really good title sequence as it provided us with animated credits. We had to choose a font and a animation which could be manipulated so that it works well with our title sequence. In after effects we had the option to also choose when the animation began and when it ended. this gave us precision and also helped us synchronise with the beat. By doing this is provided the audience with a strong sense of accuracy which also built tension.

The flip cameras helped us record our progress and also feedback from the teacher and a young audience. This helped us improve our title sequence as suggestions were recorded and kept to increase the professionalism of our title sequence,  for example, one comment from our teacher was that the sequence was too slow and didn't go with the music. The flip camera recorded this and when looked back on it we identified the mistakes and developed our sequence.

All these softwares and technological gadgets helped us create our title sequence effectively.

What is representation? 

Representation is the presentation of an event, group of people or idea in a way that appears 'normal' or like 'reality'.

 Using the representation that are already linked with a specific group of people, idea or events  allows the  film to seem realistic to the audience which in turn allows a greater suspense of disbelief when viewing the film. However, it could also be said that too much sterotypical representations  can cause the film too realistic and disinterest the audience. One representation we used in our title sequence was wearing masked. wearing a mask is deemed as intentionally being mysterious and somewhat creepy in real life so this is a image we believed will suit our plot very well.

Acting on the feedback given

 We as a group have been praised by our peers for many aspects of our title sequence, especially the misc en scene.

 We received feedback that we needed to make the cuts towards the end of the title sequence faster so it can mirror the speed of the sound. This will be the objective I will aim to achieve by the 20th of January.

It was also suggested that we cut the soundtrack I produced ( creating my own version of see you again). I agree with that statement as it will defiantly increase the tension and " goose bumps" the audience experience.

The Titles/ credits were defiantly a problem in this rough cut but in the groups defence, it was more of a placement for when we create our actual credits.

I thank everyone for the positive feedback but even more for the constructive criticism because it will make our title sequence better.

We felt that  the title sequence was not discreet enough so we attempted to fix this but mixing the shots we currently had. in a future I will provide a rough cut of the more discreet image and embed the first rough cut so you can view the difference.

Influences Update-Ceanne

SEVEN



Se7en (stills)
The opening title sequence of Seven establishes a mysterious and disturbing atmosphere. The colours consist of dark grey, black and hints of bright light. Throughout the sequence, Seven consists of quick shots of peculiar objects and quick flickers. Seven is a good example of a discrete title sequence as it is unclear as to what the objects mean at this stage but will be revealed once you watch the film. We have noticed that Seven consist of very quick matchshots lasting around 2/3 seconds throughout the title sequence. The colours also heightens to mood. The dark colours create a sense of gloominess and the fact that we can not see the person's face but we can only see his hands, gives the impression that he's hiding his identity. In our Title Sequence , we admired the idea of not seeing the antagonist's face therefore inspired by this we thought it would a brilliant idea if the stalkers wore white masks which again gives a quite chilling atmosphere.

Update on Sound-Ceanne

Throughout our title sequence, we used two sounds , the "See you again" remake which Devon made and the creepy thriller music we found. One of the successes was emerging the two non-diegetic sounds together which worked perfectly with one another. However , we wanted to manipulate the sound of the creepy music to a more deeper and menacing mood. To do this, we changed the settings and tone to be more lower which we believed would convey the right atmosphere.

We were debating whether to remove the "See you again" remake as some of us thought the remake would distract the audience from the plot of the title sequence however we believe that this remake is based on Devon's creativity and added the elements of eerie and a sinister mood hence why we decided to keep it. On the other hand, we may plan to redo the See you again remake, changing the sound slightly and Devon's tone of voice.

What we found difficult was finding the right non-diegetic sound as a layer to "See you again". We were very critical and aware of what worked and what did not work. We spent most of the time focusing on the sound as we feel this was the one of the vital aspects of our title sequence and worked hard trying to perfect this.

Update- Order of Clips

From our rough cut, we noticed that the original order of the shots caused confusion as it had elements of a narrative and discrete title sequence. For example, at the beginning of our original rough cut , it starts of the woman walking , then being grabbed behind and killed by her stalker, the rest of the shots shows a more discrete title sequence where there was quick jump shots and cross-cutting of mysterious men and posters of missing people. We thought it was possible to include both a narrative and discrete title sequence but decided that we must pick one.

We came to the decision that our rough cut should be a discrete type of sequence but heavily stylised although this is the most challenging type of title sequence because it requires massive amount of editing and a lot of film shots, we feel confident that we will be able to sucessfully achieve this to a high standard as we are a very ambitious group. We changed the order of the shots to be more random but hopefully you can still be able to work out the story we are trying to establish.

Throughout the rough cut, we made the shots more quicker and we speeded up some of them. For editing we were planning to use the superimpose effect for our symbol which would be displayed throughout the sequence. Hopefully we will manage to do this as it will captivate the audience and show the significance of the symbol.

The strobe lighting effect was used in our title sequence as a flicker which was inspired by us as Seven and American Horror Story used variety of these effects to create a sinister atmosphere. The shots start off with the young woman walking but then randomly jumps to quick shots of the bloody hands, masked men watching and the woman dead on the ground to create a more discrete title sequence.

planning what sound is going to be used in title sequence




I will like to point out that there are intentional freeze frames throughout this video so the viewer can understand what part  / follow what I'm talking about. The video is double its original length because of this. The resolution is also very low because I used windows movie maker to produce this at home.

Weaknesses
Commit to one type of title sequence- moving picture or discrete.
Jump cuts may have tiny gaps in between them.
Establishment of the location.

From the feedback, we have taken the advise from our peers and our teacher to improve our title sequence. There are some areas of our rough cut where we need to finalise some shots through editing and to remove shots which are less effective than others. We believe that our main success is portraying the story and adding variety of shots.


Smart Targets


Blog Feedback


I have been set targets by my teacher in order to attain a higher mark in my blog. According to my teacher, my independent research is of high quality and very detailed and I use different forms of ICT competently. However, my blogs frequency has not been as good and I need to post more frequently to make sure I increase my mark. I also need to add more evidence of production work because there is a slight imbalance in my production work evidence in comparison to my independent research which doesn't allow me to obtain higher marks. In addition, I have some key blog posts that are missing from my blog, meaning that I need to post them in order to increase my mark.

Overall, the feedback received is very detailed and specific, therefore it helps set a checklist of aims to be completed, which makes it much easier to understand what area of my blog needs more work in order to achieve a higher mark and secure an A grade.

Overview
I agree with the strengths and weakness of my blogposts and I feel that in some areas I lack evidence of filming and evidence and I should complete blogs to a high standard which could improve my grade to a solid A. All posts should be well detailed and should be consistant. I am really confident when it comes to presenting my work through various IT presentations and have a good organised use of planning.

I do spend most of the time making sure my work is well presented and recently have not been posting blogs frequently.


Blog feedback and Target Setting



I received feedback on my blog by my teacher. i completely agree on what weaknesses are and how i can improve to make my blog an A grade. i am extremely passionate about making my blog the highest level it can possible be ( level 20) so i will take all the helpful suggestions to do so.

The weakness that i have are that some blog posts are missing so to prevent this from being a habit i will make sure that i create a checklist of every blog that i have done and will do so i don't accidentally miss any.

another was that my blogging wasn't as strong as it was when i was researching and planning. This was because i was prioritising planning the product and wasn't thinking about blogging. not that it is an excuse.

The other weakness is that it is not chronological so i will find time to arrange them to their correct place.

Blog Feedback



My strengths are that when i post a blog, they are consistently detailed and contain useful information  go the filming process and the steps we took to successfully plan and carry out our filming.

Another strength is that i use a variety of presentational apps and software to make my work more interesting and more presentable.

the final strength my blog has is that i have done a lot of independent posts to show that i understand the tasks and what me and my group are doing.

However, I do have some empty posts that i still have to add information to and this is because i did not focus so much on my blog whist filming my title sequence.

another weakness i have to work on is to gain audience feedback for the rough but of our title sequence and evaluate the feedback to get more knowledge about the weaknesses of the film and it should improve.
