What is the purpose of a title sequence and film opening?

The purpose of a title sequence is to engage the audience by setting a certain tone(feeling) to create a suspense disbelief and to make the audience eager to to find out what the movie is about. Effective title sequences such as Godzilla and World War Z excite the audience by hinting at the themes that would take place, and, in some cases, the challenges that the protagonist will be facing. The intention is to build anticipation, sometimes revealing some of the main character’s traits and possibly setting the stage for questions that will be answered later in the movie.

Successful title sequences leaves the audience in curiosity and excitement which tends to leave the audience glued to their seats, waiting for more.Furthermore, the title sequence is an introduction of the film genre, so the audience is aware of the type of film they are going to watch. The credits and Idents are vital tools that are presented in the title sequences to advertise the companies, allows the audience to identify who created the film and the name of the film.
